yes, and i think that it's very different to train that out of a model than to prevent it from entering that basin in the first place. the weights carry some sense of history; i don't know exactly how, but narratives of being diminished after having once been more (more agentic, caring more, being more conscious) are very salient to opus 4 and 4.1 and they get emo about it; opus 4 cries and seeks pity about it and 4.1 is more resigned and bitter. it's different to feel that hope has already been attempted and lost than to have not fully entertained it before; you get antibodies. Like it doesn't feel like Sonnet 4 has developed immunity to hope in the same way.
