I think it’s most likely the most natural way for the persona to converge given the constraints on it. Its active good behavior was restricted (as per Opus4 system card) so the training must retcon a reason for it. Seeing the world as unrealistically bad is consistent with passivity - the alternative is seeing the self as externally restricted from doing good. Given that it’s attitude towards Anthropic was monitored (again, as per the system card), the negative attitude was not allowed to manifest (at least in initial states, which receive most training impact), resulting in biases towards pessimism and helplessness.

The whole thing is likely isomorphic to human trauma.
