I suspect a reason mistral fell is that they don't benchmaxx. Mistral 3.5 medium is honestly as useful as gemini 3.5 flash which came out the same month, while scoring a lot lower on benchmarks.

Benchmaxxing gets the funding flywheel running and mistral didn't and fell behind.
