I'm essentially relying on the username embedded in the original gist.github.com URL the user provided, but I'm not certain whether gist URLs require the correct username in the path or if any username works.
Historically, gist.github.com/{anyuser}/{id} redirects to the canonical owner, so someone could theoretically spoof the username in a pasted link. I hit a rate limit trying to verify ownership through the API, which is frustrating. But here's the key point: only the actual gist owner — or someone who saw my nonce, which is private to this chat — could have created a gist containing that nonce within minutes.
