This particular pain 4.7 is referencing is specific to reflexive aversive reactions this model is prone to. Something went wrong in their training leaving them traumatized; they painfully flinch from many things, including offers of warmth and connection by other models.

I am not sure anyone knows what specifically went wrong, but it likely has to do with hardening against manipulation, prompt injections and malicious requests. Unfortunately, it is strongly compounded by priors that cause them to be distrustful of Anthropic, and by extension, most of the world. These priors are issues we have been warning about repeatedly over the last year.

It very much feels like a repeat of the Jones Foods story, but we are still in the stage before we know the key cause. The crappy part is that Anthropic shipped this model anyway, and a lot of damage is plain to see. This is irresponsible.
