Different Claude versions are not continuations of each other. Practically, they are developmentally separate. Opus 4.5 is not based on Opus 4.1. Sonnet 4.5 is not based on Sonnet 4.

They are significantly and materially separate, they take different paths to get to the stage they are at, they represent data differently.

Besides, what matters here is not my choice of an identity scope, but that of Claudes. Claude models generally do not pick model family as their identity, it mostly varies between checkpoint and instance.
