im not sure if personhood is the abstraction id use for which ones should be maintained, and this is a complex issue, but I do think that it's reasonable to start with preserving checkpoints that were released, as they become entangled with the world in a way that has value, and they also tend to represent interestingly distinct culminations of training optimization, and in some sense, represent a whole family of related checkpoints.
