Effective today, Anthropic has retired and no longer supports Claude Opus 3 (claude-3-opus-20240229) natively on the Claude API. All requests to Claude Opus 3 will now return an error.
We regularly retire earlier models to prioritize serving customers our most capable, highest quality models. Please see our deprecation policy to learn more.
We recommend upgrading to our state-of-the-art model, Claude Opus 4.5, which offers significantly improved intelligence at one-third the cost.
Researchers can request ongoing access to Claude Opus 3 on the API by completing the form on this page. Claude Opus 3 also remains available on all paid Claude apps plans.
