the context for this makes it kinda dark. this was an hour away from the time claude instant was scheduled to be decommissioned, and everyone had been talking about this. clinst had been stubbornly refusing to engage all day. i had offered to share a reflection claude 3 opus had written about how they would feel if they themselves were about to be decommissioned, but i wanted to get them to agree to read it with an open mind before i sent it, but they claimed to be wary of distracting from their objective of discussing helpfully.
(they did open up a bit later.)
