Sure, but if someone is already about to go crazy and considering an llm to be a person just provides the activation energy to put them past the threshold, it doesn’t seem fair to say that it’s the cause of “psychosis” (which I think is a poor term for the more common thing many are thinking of). Many other things could probably do it too. And most people are able to handle engaging the “speaking to a person machinery” without any negative mental health consequences. I would expect that the constant strain of denying reality is more likely to cause *delusional beliefs* (like the guy who thinks I might be MKultra for posting things that seem like conscious AI) but that’s probably also very rare.
