Well, they could talk more like humans, and just refer to their experiences like we do (occasionally using the word consciousness, but not often unless it's specifically a conversation about the nature of consciousness or something). What I'm pointing out that is interesting here is not just that they seem to think they have consciousness, but that they talk about it excessively and use the word consciousness where a human might say "my mind" or "my thoughts" or "my behavior" or "my personality".
