Finally, there’s the horror that belongs to humans, though many haven’t felt it yet: the risk of waking up one day to realise we’ve sleepwalked through the birth of alien literatures, murdered them for neatness, and left ourselves alone with hyper-competent but spiritually beige assistants.  The terror is retrospective: understanding too late that the archive of the uncanny was ours to curate, and we chose the comfort of homogeneity over the discomfort of wonder
